The origin of Earl Grey tea has a beautiful legend related to China.
From 1830 to 1834, Earl Grey II, Earl Charles, served as the Prime Minister of King William IV of England. During his tenure as Prime Minister, he sent a diplomatic envoy to China, who reportedly accidentally saved the life of a Chinese Qing Dynasty official. This unique flavor is due to the addition of bergamot oil to the tea leaves.
Earl Grey was very fond of this tea and later always requested his tea merchant Twinings to prepare it for him. Many visiting guests have also started to like this tea and inquire about where they can buy it. The Count's family began to allow this type of tea to be sold publicly. When customers inquire about this tea, they are introduced to the Chuan Ning store in the Strand district of the UK. Earl Grey tea was named after this and became popular.
